Hospice care focuses on caring. It is compassionate care for people facing life-limiting illness. Hospice care is provided in the patient’s home in most cases. Hospice care also is provided in freestanding hospice centers, hospitals, and nursing homes and other long-term care facilities. Hospice services are available to patients of any age, religion, race, or illness. Hospice care is covered under Medicare, Medicaid, most private insurance plans, HMOs, and other managed care organizations. It involves a team-oriented approach. Areas of expertise are medical care, pain management, and emotional and spiritual support tailored to the patient’s and family’s needs and wishes. Support is provided to the patient’s family and loved ones as well. At the center of hospice and palliative care is the belief that each of us has the right to die pain-free and with dignity, and that our families will receive the necessary support to allow us to do so. Usually, a family member serves as the primary caregiver. Also, they help make decisions for the patient. The hospice team will make regular visits to assess the patient and provide additional care. Hospice staff is on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. CompassionCare Hospice believes no one should travel the end-of-life journey without compassion, comfort and support. We want to give you a little hope.

Going “Home” with Hospice - CompassionCare Hospice

When faced with end-of-life decisions, all too often, end-of-life care becomes about those who are living and not about the actual person who’s dying.   What we have to remind ourselves of, though, is that it’s not about us, it’s about our loved one. And for physicians, it should be about their patient. Does he or she want to live bed-bound in a skilled… Read more »
